A Medical Director is a licensed Physician serving in each of Phoenix House’s Substance Abuse Clinics that provide residential and/or outpatient services to adults or adolescents. The Medical Director is responsible for overseeing all clinical treatment activities at the clinic and makes decisions concerning admissions, treatment planning and discharge of clients/patients based on medical necessity in accordance with contract and funding requirements. General direction is received from the Senior Program Director. General supervision is exercised over medical staff.
The Medical Director/Physician will be responsible for maintaining established medical policies and standards, assuring the quality of medical services given to all clients/patients, having admitting privileges to a general acute care hospital and identifying which hospital(s) and completing a minimum of five (5) hours of continuing medical education in addiction medicine each year.
•Must be a licensed Physician by the Medical Board or Osteopathic Medical Board, with a current license in a state of California.
•Three years of experience working in an adolescent treatment setting, or drug and alcohol treatment setting.
•Two years of management or supervisory experience overseeing therapeutic staff in an adolescent treatment environment.
•Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to make decisions independently and communicate effectively when dealing with clients, families, other staff members, department heads, visitors, external agencies and community members
•Experience supervising and direct staff and to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with appropriate documentation skills to complete reports, utilize data and communicate ideas constructively
•Ability to establish and consistently enforce appropriate boundaries with client/patients of Phoenix House
•Computer literate; demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
•Demonstrated ability to utilize an electronic clinical management system.
