RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform health screenings at intake, and as necessary; ensure that ROIs for PCP and collateral information are completed at that time.

  • Respond to client health needs by reviewing, prioritizing and conducting “nurse” visits. Triage health complaints and provide nursing care to clients.

  • Act as liaison between medical consultants (MD and PA) and clients’ medical service providers.

  • Supervise client compliance with prescribed medical regimen and oversee self-administration of medication.

  • Ensure that MAT protocols and procedures for detoxification and maintenance ,( including induction) are followed and that pre-authorizations, ROIs, consents, and patient agreements are in place.

  • Oversee transcription of medication orders into the medication documentation log

  • Supervise staff compliance with the medication oversight and documentation log

  • Advise and consult with clinical treatment team regarding medical matters.

  • Provide HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C , STDS, and other health care seminars as requested.

  • Conduct opioid overdose drills and provide naloxone training to all staff, patients and families, as requested.

  • Observe clients and report adverse reactions to medication and/or treatment, signs of illness or changes in client condition in a timely manner to APRN or Medical Director Consultant.

  • Perform drug screen urinalysis as needed, and report results of all urinalysis results for patients.

  • Ensure that bloodwork is ordered and results are shared with MD and patient in a timely manner.

  • Document all abnormal lab results and positive drug screens in the electronic Health record of all patients and clients at all levels of care.

  • Maintain client health record according to professional nursing documentation standards.

  • Call in orders as requested by PA or MD for client prescription and oversee the proper storage of same.

  • Maintain medical supplies, OTC medications and equipment.

  • May assist PA with health examinations as requested.

  • Respond to medical emergencies at the direction APRP, PA or Medical Director Consultant.

  • Assist in preparation and storage of medical forms, and/or departmental reports as requested.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

  • Must possess State of New Hampshire License as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

  • License must be current and valid and free of documented disciplinary or corrective action.

  • Must possess 2-5 years previous nursing experience.

  • Previous experience working in substance abuse treatment, corrections or mental health environment strongly preferred.

  • CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Excellent observation, decision-making and organization skills.

  • Knowledge of emotional and physical needs of substance abusers.

  • Ability to work with a diverse criminal justice population.

  • Ability to establish appropriate boundaries and un-possessive, professional relationships with all clients in treatment, including former clients served.

  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority.

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

  • Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns. This includes the ability to help build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the team.

  • Ability to operate general office equipment in the completion of job responsibilities.
